It is the last weekend before school begins.
Monday morning I'll hear the buses, have to set an alarm for the first time in months, and scramble to get everyone out the door. I know so many people are eager for this time of the year. I dread it. It's the start of a chaotic and busy season. Keeping track of schedules, remember to meal prep, trying to squeeze in every last bit of freedom before your mind dives directly into work. Weekends become your catch- up time. It's also a little bit sad. I only get so many summers with them as children. Eighteen to be exact. For me, the end of this weekend is the closing of a chapter, and I was not quite ready for this one to end.
I can't complain though. We had a good summer. We had lots of new experiences and an equal amount of the mundane. The kids were able to spend their summertime with friends. We had lots of "senior year" excitement. The kids earned a little bit of spending money to have through the year. I feel like I was more productive than in previous years. We saw new places, traveled a little bit, and really had a chance to just relax. The past couple of summers have been some of my happiest.
But, like all good things it must come to an end. From here on out, life will move fast. Before we know it, Christmas will be here and then graduation. I'm going to do my best to slow down, take it all in, and stop the unnecessary worrying about the things and people that I can't control. Here's to savoring the next 48 hours, here's to a drama free school year and most importantly, here's to a great last weekend.
