It has only taken me 6 months.

But here we are, leaves changing, heading into the heart of autumn and I'm reminiscing about prom. I also realized I have never shared these images on my business page. So, here's the story.

Senior year brings so many "lasts"- the last football game, last guard performance, and of course, the last dance. For Fort Hill's APC color guard seniors, that final dance looked a little different. Because of a competition, that had to miss the official Fort Hill prom. But thanks to several wonderful parents and their dedicated guard directors, these students got to have a prom of their own-full of sparkle, music, and fun.

The only challenge? The weather.

It was one of those gray, rainy days that just won't make up its mind. I kept checking the radar, wondering where we would take pictures and if I had enough hair products to battle the inevitable hair frizz fiasco. I needed to find a location that would allow indoor options while still being a pretty backdrop if we got a dry moment or two.

At the very last minute, it came to me: Frostburg State University.

It couldn't have been a more fitting choice. I earned my degree from FSU, my husband earned his undergraduate degree from there, and he's currently employed there as the chair of Chemistry, Physics, and Geography. It's also the school where Charlotte would attend and her date as well. What better place to celebrate the end of one chapter and the beginning of another?

Even with the drizzle, the campus was beautiful. The red brick buildings and soft overcast light made everything feel calm and timeless. Charlotte looked stunning in her soft sky blue, Cinderella style gown. Its layers of tulle flowing like clouds when she moved. Her dress had delicate shoulder bows that fluttered in the breeze and shimmered softly even in the overcast light. Her date complemented her perfectly in a sleek, black suit and matching blue tie as a subtle nod to her dress. My sister made all of the floral arrangements. She owns Flintstone Creek Flower Farm and has made beautiful bouquets for several occasions.

The two of them stood together, smiling at each other, framed by the modern glass and architecture of the buildings behind them- a place that would soon be a part of their next chapter. It was one of those full-circle moments that felt almost too perfect to plan.

Even with the rain, the day turned out beautifully. Between dashes to stay dry, a hint of sun, and moments of laughter we captured the essence of what this milestone represents- growth, hope, and the excitement of what's to come.

Sometimes, life doesn't give us the weather we wish for, but it gives us the memories we need. And for Charlotte's prom pictures, that couldn't be truer. I know these images will be talked about for many years and months to come (and yes, they may have even sparked a little jealousy amongst some) but hey, that's the perk of having a photographer for a mom.
